Renault to give one lucky student up to £9,000 towards university tuition fees in New Twizy Design Competition

As buzz continues to grow for one of 2012’s most eagerly-anticipated cars – the 100 per cent electric, two-seater Twizy, Renault has launched a competition with a top prize to delight college and university students alike up and down the country. The French marque has
launched a design competition for the new electric runabout, with one lucky winner set to receive enough money to cover a years’ worth of tuition fees (imagine the amount of supermarket own-brand baked beans you could buy with that kind of money …).

Open to current Higher Education students as well as Further Education students making the step-up this autumn, the top prize will see Renault hand over enough money to cover the winner’s tuition fees for a year. The second prize is a weekend for two in Paris, with the third prize winner taking home £250 in French Connection vouchers.

To promote the competition, Renault will be visiting four campuses around the UK with a Twizy:
> University College London-Monday, 13 February
> Birmingham City University-Tuesday, 14 February
> Manchester Metropolitan University-Thursday, 16 February
> University of Glasgow-Friday, 17 February

Students throughout the UK are encouraged to visit www.designatwizy.co.uk to download a template of the car and let their creative juices flow. They have until 20 February to submit their designs for the Twizy and can enter as many times as they like in the hope of scooping one of three prizes. Full entry details, including terms and conditions, are available on the website.

A Renault-appointed judging panel, including the brand’s own Senior Vice-President, Corporate Design, Laurens van den Acker, will whittle down all of the entries to find their top 10. It will then be up to the general public to cast their votes via website to find the lucky winners who will be announced on April 16, 2012.

British buyers have already been pre-ordering their own trailblazing all-electric Twizy, and cars are set to hit UK streets in April. There is a choice of three trim levels from just £6,690, plus monthly battery hire from £45 based on 4,500 miles per year, over three years.

On the new Twizy, Andy Heiron, Head of Electric Vehicle Programme, Renault UK, said, “We’re really excited to launch the Twizy in the UK. Its low price, combined with expected low insurance premiums and running costs, means that Twizy will be well suited to younger drivers interested in an affordable way of getting around in style, in a much safer method than two wheels, whether it be pedal power, scooter or motorbike.”
