Cardiff’s Cup heroes welcome a three-pointed star player

Days after their heroic Carling Cup Final defeat, the players and staff of Cardiff City FC are stepping up their drive for a place in the Premiership – with a little help from Mercedes-Benz.

South Wales dealer Euro Commercials has set the seal on a new sponsorship
agreement with the Championship club by delivering a dynamic Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport.

The van arrived shortly before Cardiff’s Wembley showdown with mighty Liverpool. It has been assigned to the club’s media team, who used it to support their extensive activities in London.

Riding on 17-inch six-spoke alloy wheels, and with stylish chrome sidebars, the eye-catching new van is a 116CDI model. At its heart is a clean, ‘green’ 163 hp engine that offers punchy performance but is also economical to run and falls below the 200 g/km emissions threshold.

The new Vito has lined up alongside the Bluebirds’ other Mercedes-Benz van, a larger Sprinter model which is used by Kit & Equipment Manager Ian Lanning.

“The club is flying high right now and things are pretty hectic,” declared Cardiff City Commercial Manager Nic Heslop. “So the Vito is going to make life a lot easier for our media team, which comprises four full-time staff and three part-timers.

“They endeavour to document everything the club does, recording all of our matches, home and away. They also engage with the community in a host of different projects, including arranging player appearances.”

“The Vito is a fantastic-looking van while Euro Commercials have been great to work with, and are very supportive. This season is the first that we have worked together but we’d like to think it marks the beginning of what is going to become a long-term partnership,” he added.

Cardiff City won universal praise for their battling performance in the Carling Cup Final. The game finished 2-2 at the end of extra time, before the underdogs finally succumbed to their illustrious opponents in a nail-biting penalty shootout.

However, with Cardiff currently sitting in a play-off place in the Championship, hopes are high that they will be able to win promotion and join local rivals Swansea City in the Premiership next season.

Euro Commercials General Sales Manager Nathan Black declared, “Despite losing to Liverpool the Bluebirds did South Wales proud at Wembley. Under manager Malky Mackay Cardiff City is clearly going places – and it’s doing so with Euro Commercials and Mercedes-Benz!”

Euro Commercials sells and supports the award-winning range of Mercedes-Benz trucks and vans, as well as popular Fuso Canter light trucks. It has a dedicated van sales centre on Penarth Road, Cardiff, and other locations in Swansea, Bridgend and Newport, but the new Vito will be maintained, like the club’s Sprinter, at the company’s headquarters in Ipswich Road, Cardiff.
