Citroen Berlingo winning the high cube van sales race

In the high cube F1 van segment (up to 2,500 kg gvw), Citroen’s Berlingo has convincingly beaten its rivals to gain top spot for the first two months of 2012. During January and February, Citroen sold 1,345 Berlingos to take the leading position - and an amazing 24.1 per cent share - of this very competitive sector.

“When the economy is facing a tough time and money is tight, its quality and low running costs that tempt buyers to invest in new vans. The Berlingo provides all the quality, low whole life costs and versatility the market demands, as its sector leadership shows in the opening months of 2012. Euro-5 Berlingo sales for January and February 2012 were 9.6 per cent ahead of the second place manufacturer, 11 per cent ahead of the third place contender and more than outsold the fourth and fifth place manufacturers combined,” commented Scott Michael, Citroen’s Commercial Vehicle Operations Manager.

“The Berlingo’s market appeal will only get stronger when the latest updated models go on sale next month. The 2012 model Berlingo is even more economical and has even lower emissions, something which will really give buyers something extra to think about when choosing their vans in this highly competitive sector,” Scott Michael adds.

The 2012 Berlingo range, which makes its CV Show debut in April, is the most versatile high cube van range available in the UK. It is offered, dependent on model, with a choice of three trim levels and five powertrains (1 petrol/4 diesel). As part of this powertrain choice, the 2012 Berlingo includes the advanced e-HDi 90 Airdream EGS6, which features micro-hybrid technology with stop & start and a six-speed automated manual gearbox that delivers CO2 emissions of just 123 g/km and combined cycle fuel economy figure of 60.1 mpg.

The Berlingo range also includes L1 and L2 versions, which provide a maximum load capacity of 4.1 m3, a 2-seater Extenso multi-function folding passenger seat (excluding X models), 625, 750 and 850 kg payloads, a 5-seat crew van, an enhanced traction XTR+ van and a platform cab for special bodywork. All 2012 Berlingo panel vans are fitted, as standard, with Citroen’s unique Trafficmaster Smartnav satellite navigation system package, which also includes Trackstar stolen vehicle tracking.
