Kohler Engines, a part of the Kohler Co., a USD 5 billion company head quartered at Wisconsin, U.S. unveiled the new 2012 version of KD441 engine with improved power, torque and fuel efficiency and also showcased a range of engines for ‘last mile
connectivity’ vehicles at the ongoing 11th Auto Expo 2012. Kohler Engines has long been developing technology with special focus on superior combustion, resulting in higher fuel efficiency and lower emission.

Sudipto Mukherjee, GM Marketing - Kohler Engines Division of India said, “I take immense pride to announce that Kohler Engines Division in India has successful achieved BS IV emission norms with the single cylinder air-cooled mechanical engine – KD441 in the Indian automotive market, the first of its kind in the world to fulfill stage-IV norms. The trials for the same are going on vehicles of few leading Indian automakers and the certification formalities will be completed in due course. Kohler Engines is now ready to offer engines for 700-800 kg and 900-1,000 kg payload 4-wheel commercial diesel vehicles – Mechanical engines for BS III and Common Rail versions of same engines for BS IV.”

The company offers a complete range of engines up to 1-ton payload.  It is now the leader in India for engines for 500 kg payload 4-wheel commercial diesel vehicles plying on the Indian roads. The vehicles powered by Kohler’s KD441 engine in this category are Mahindra & Mahindra’s GiO, which comes in both goods & passenger carrier variants; and Piaggio’s Ape Mini (Goods). Kohler’s KD441 is a single-cylinder, 441 cc, air-cooled, direct injection, 9.2 hp/6.8 kw engine, with robust performance and a fuel efficiency of 27+ kmpl.

Kohler also exhibited a range of engines for 'last mile connectivity' vehicles. The engines are available in Diesel, Petrol and CNG variants for both 3 & 4-wheelers. The engines are manufactured at the world-class manufacturing facility at Aurangabad (Maharashtra), to support the Automotive OEMs for all new vehicle projects.

KDW 702 (2-cylinder, 686 cc, water-cooled) 12.5 kW engine from the Kohler engine range has been selected as the optimum solution for BS III emission compliance providing the right balance between power and fuel efficiency for 700-800 kg payload vehicle category. Common rail version of the same engine will provide 15.0 kW power and meet BS IV emission compliance. KDW 1003 (3-cylinder, 1028 cc, water-cooled) 20.0 kW engine from the Kohler engine range has been selected as the optimum solution for BS III emission compliance providing the right balance between power and fuel efficiency for 900-1,000 kg payload vehicle category. Common rail version of the same engine will provide 22.0 kW power and meet BS IV emission compliance. Also, the same engine can be manufactured with vertical or tilted options, as desired by OEMs for appropriate packaging in their vehicles. Kohler is can also adding Turbo Charger to these engines to increase power & torque, if required for any vehicle project.

The complete range of engines being offered by KOHLER Engines for Indian market is quite impressive for the small commercial vehicle manufacturers.
