Vauxhall in Luton and Ellesmere port takes 60 per cent of UK commercial vehicle production

2011 is yet another year to credit outstanding production figures to Vauxhall in the commercial vehicle sector where the manufacturer outperformed potential competition with a stunning 60 per cent share of the UK production.

Vauxhall – synonym for by
far the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the UK – generates the bulk of its CV production at its Luton site, accounting for c57 per cent of the total industry volume with Vivaro-type vans.

Apart from making Vauxhall top the UK CV retail charts in 2011, manufacturing bespoke high-quality vehicles for its UK customers and teaming up with Ellesmere Port where the Astravan is built, Vauxhall’s Vivaro Van Plant also has an export story to tell with over 64 per cent of its vehicles bound for Europe last year.

Luton’s Plant Director, Mark Stein, said, “Responsibility for the majority of the UK’s industry volume in van manufacturing is a huge achievement and I heartily congratulate our excellent workforce for their commitment and dedication. Building on Vauxhall’s over 100-year history, we are now looking forward to an exciting future with the next generation Vivaro going into production in less than two years."
