Iveco Stralis secures order from James Wilby Ltd

West Yorkshire-based haulier James Wilby has taken delivery of the first Iveco Stralis to join its current fleet, supplied by local dealer Northern Commercials.

The arrival of the Stralis Active Space Super tractor unit introduces a second truck marque into
the 38-strong fleet, which comprises tractors, rigids and drawbars.

Keith Shaw, Managing Director of James Wilby, says, “Northern Commercials brought a Stralis over to show me and I decided to give one a try.  It’s a very smart looking truck and looks great in our livery."

“We’ll be putting the Stralis through its paces to see how it performs against our existing DAFs. First impressions have been positive, but we need to wait for the engine to run-in before we can compare the two on fuel,” he adds.

The Stralis twin-steer tractor unit (AS440S45TX/P) is plated at 44-tonnes and is likely to remain on the fleet for between eight and nine years, covering up to 80,000 miles a year. It will operate across the UK with a mix of flatbed and curtainside trailers, transporting goods ranging from steel to greetings cards.

Power is provided by an FPT Industrial Cursor 10 engine which is capable of producing up to 450 hp between 1,550 and 2,100 rev/min and up to 2,100 Nm of torque between 1,050 and 1,550 rev/min. It achieves this whilst meeting the Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle (EEV) emissions target – originally developed as the appropriate standard for a CNG-powered vehicle. The EEV rating now serves as a stepping stone between Euro-5 and Euro-6, with diesel particulates in a vehicle’s emissions cut from 0.03 to 0.02 g/kWh.
The Stralis AS Super’s premium cab also guarantees James Wilby drivers a comfortable on-board experience thanks to a heated and air-suspended seat with pneumatic adjustable lumbar support, together with 220 mm of travel to suit both tall and short drivers. Standard in-cab features include air conditioning, Eberspacher heater, slide-out fridge, twin bunks and a conveniently located control panel next to the upper bunk allowing the driver to control the interior lights, cab heating and alarm clock.
