Ground-breaking technology and apprenticeships at Vauxhall

As many as 100 students from local secondary schools visited Vauxhall’s Apprenticeship Fair at Millbrook Proving Ground this week to explore career opportunities in automotive manufacturing.

Students aged 16-19 attended the Fair gaining insight into a variety
of exciting career paths as the application process for apprenticeships has just begun to fill positions in the manufacturing, engineering and commercial arenas from September 2012. Positions will be offered at Vauxhall’s sites in Luton and also at Millbrook Proving Ground.

Current apprentices were at the Fair to speak to the students and share their experiences, whilst Vauxhall’s educational provider, Bedford College was on hand offering guidance and support on qualifications that students can gain with an apprenticeship. The advantages apprenticeships can offer in the current working environment – apart from ‘earning whilst learning’ – were also explained.

Showcasing ground-breaking technological innovation at the Fair was Vauxhall’s electric Ampera and technicians from Vauxhall’s Technology Centre and Millbrook Proving Ground were happy to explain the car’s technology to the students: The European motoring press had just awarded Vauxhall’s Ampera Car of the Year 2012 – announced at the Geneva Motor Show this week!
