General Motors sold 245,799 vehicles as August sales in China

General Motors and its joint ventures sold an August record 245,799 vehicles in China. Sales were up 11.2 per cent from last year's previous high for the month.

Shanghai GM's domestic sales increased 10.9 per cent on an annual basis to 122,218 units. SAIC-GM-Wuling's
sales in China rose 12.4 per cent to 119,745 units. Both joint ventures had record August sales. FAW-GM's domestic sales decreased 18.3 per cent to 3,362 units.

Buick sales in China were up 17.7 per cent on an annual basis to 67,793 units, an all-time high for August. The brand was once again led by the original Excelle family, which had sales of 21,364 units. In addition, the Excelle XT and GT had sales of 18,098 units - an increase of 20.4 per cent, and the LaCrosse had sales of 9,188 units - an increase of 34.8 per cent.

Chevrolet sales in China were down 2.5 per cent from last August to 50,029 units. The brand was led by the Cruze, which had a sales gain of 3.2 per cent to 20,688 units. It was followed by the Sail, which sold 15,934 units. Sales of the Malibu were also strong, rising 28.5 per cent to 8,277 units.

Cadillac sales jumped 108.9 per cent year over year to an August record 4,396 units in China. Demand for the SRX was up 49.4 per cent to 2,366 units, while sales of the XTS totaled 2,029 units in the model's first August on the market.

Wuling sales in China reached 112,139 units in August, an increase of 12.4 per cent on an annual basis. Sales of the Hong Guang, its most popular model, rose 51.5 per cent to 41,805 units. Baojun sales totaled 7,606 units, rising 28.8 per cent year over year. Both brands set August sales records.

For the first eight months of 2013, sales by GM and its joint ventures in China rose 10.7 per cent on an annual basis to 2,034,771 units, an all-time high for the period. Shanghai GM's domestic sales grew 15.5 per cent to 978,346 units. SAIC-GM-Wuling had domestic sales growth of 7.0 per cent to 1,017,102 units. Both were sales records. FAW-GM's domestic sales declined 0.9 per cent to 36,330 units.
