Volkswagen were once again the number one brand in Ireland in August, with 483 units or 13.06 per cent market share, just ahead of nearest rivals Skoda in second place. From a strong month in July, sales across the Industry showed promising signs with an increase
in registrations of almost 20 per cent (19.6 per cent) compared to August 2012. This means that year-to-date the Irish car market is just 7.6 per cent down on last year after a very strong July and August.

Volkswagen remains the number one brand in Ireland with 12.73 per cent market share delivering 8,713 units, positioning them ahead of Toyota and Ford. The Volkswagen Golf remains the number one model of 2013 so far. 3,397 Golfs have been registered in 2013, giving it a 4.96 per cent market share.

"Any fears that August would be a very weak month was allayed with the result that saw a significant increase in sales across the Industry in August," said Volkswagen Head of Marketing Paul O'Sullivan. "We are particularly delighted with the continued success of the Golf and the success of our Volkswagen Bank products," added O'Sullivan.
