Euro NCAP Advanced Award for the up!

Volkswagen’s smallest car continues to go one better, the comprehensive safety concept of the up! has already been awarded five stars by Euro NCAP. In addition, the City Emergency Braking function of the up! won the 2012 Advanced Award. This award,
started in 2010, also comes from the independent European consumer protection organisation Euro NCAP.

The up! had the best rating of any vehicle in its class. Both children and adults are excellently protected in the event of an accident. Contributing to these results are uncompromising safety features that include the optional City Emergency Braking. This system is automatically activated at speeds between 5 and 30 km/ h, and it uses a laser sensor (integrated in the upper area of the windscreen) to scan a space up to 10 metres in front of the up! to determine the risk of an impending collision.

The emergency braking function can reduce accident severity via automatic brake intervention and potentially avoid a collision. To date, the up! is the only car in its segment that can be equipped with a City Emergency Braking function.

Volkswagen’s smallest car has already garnered first place in car registration statistics kept by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. The up! is offered in two engine configurations (44 kW/60 PS and 55 kW/75 PS) and five equipment versions (take up!, move up!, high up!, black up!, white up!) and is priced from 9,850 euros. In May, the latest member of the up! line-up will arrive at dealerships, the four-door version of the city specialist can be had for 10,325 euros – the extra price is just 475 euros compared to the two-door version.
