Nissan is the first indian auto company to cross 500,000 Facebook brand fans

Nissan India assumed leadership of the online space by becoming the first international automobile company in India to cross the 500,000 community fan base on its Facebook brand page.

The social media success has come in about four
months of the
company launching an online campaign, New Star of India, through the most popular online space, Facebook. The campaign produced the world’s first crowd-sourced movie, after selecting 20 passionate co-stars through an audition on Facebook.

Ranbir Kapoor, company's brand ambassador and Bollywood actor, starred in the movie and said, “I’m incredibly excited to be involved in this ground-breaking movie with Nissan – no-one’s attempted anything like it before. I love that this movie has taken 20 people from their living rooms and bedrooms to the movie set in three simple steps. Thank you Nissan.”

Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd said, “Nissan is all about innovation. It’s in the cars we build, the way we do business, the way we communicate. This campaign, with a winning line-up of Ranbir, Micra and Facebook, has done wonders by catapulting Nissan India to the largest Facebook brand fan base among auto companies in India in about four months. We owe a big ‘thank you’ to all our fans and all the participants in the campaign.”

The campaign launched on October 19, 2011, witnessed high moments in which movie and car fans flocked to Nissan India Facebook page to join in one of the world’s largest on-line talent hunts. New Star of India campaign also travelled across country, with live Facebook auditions at shopping malls in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Kolkotta, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad & Aurangabad.

During the audition, Facebook Nissan India page received over 2,300 short clips of people dancing for a chance to appear alongside Ranbir in the Bollywood movie – New Star of India.

Members of the public voted in their thousands to decide who the 20 lucky Ranbir co-stars would be, and helped produce the movie by shaping the plot, choosing the music, picking the wardrobe, designing the posters and naming the characters.

The movie was directed by renowned director Ahmed Khan. The movie also used 100 Micra cars for the shoot at the Ramoji Rao Film City In Hyderabad. The trailers of the movie have already started appearing at the dedicated New Star of India page on Facebook..

The New Star of India movie will be premiered on the Facebook page especially for the fans and at an exclusive launch event in early March 2012.
