Daimler Trucks opens state-of-the-art factory in India

On April 18, 2012, after a construction time of only two years, Daimler Trucks will officially open their first factory in India. From the third quarter of 2012, trucks of the brand BharatBenz introduced in February last year, will be produced in the state-of-the-art facilities.

The brand 'BharatBenz' has especially been created for the Indian market. The vehicles have been designed for the Indian market and they satisfy the needs of the Indian truck clients. For the development, the building up of a totally new network of suppliers, the production with a degree of localisation of 85 per cent, as well as marketing & distribution of the vehicles, a complete business unit has been built up with Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), which unit covers all parts of the value chain and thus, is able to produce and offer at locally attractive conditions. This is an approach which so far has not been chosen by any other international producer in India.

With its own brand, the new own factory and a total investment of 700-million euros, Daimler Trucks position themselves in the third largest truck market in the world and thus, put an emphasis on the importance of this market for the growth of the utility vehicle division. At full capacity, the factory will produce 70,000 units per year.
