Picanto conquers Parkers City Car segment

Real-life buyers’ champions, Parkers didn’t think the Kia Picanto was good enough to win just the 'under £9,000' part of its City Car category in the 2012 Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Awards – so it also chose Picanto in the £9,000-£11,000 category as well!

In this, the
second year of the Parkers’ awards, the all-new Kia Picanto was praised for 'stamping its authority' on the City Car segment.

The second-generation Picanto, launched in summer last year, impressed the judges on a number of points including low depreciation, service, maintenance and repair, tax considerations and fuel costs as well various other elements that would impact on the average new-car owner keeping the car for three years and covering up to 30,000 miles.

“The first version of the Kia Picanto was a great city runabout and this all new version has upped the ante. Not only is it very practical and provides plenty of room for four adults, and it’s a quality car at a very competitive price," said Kieren Puffett, Editor of Parkers.

“The running costs also bear this out with the Picanto not only proving it’s a contender in the city car category but stamps its authority on it proving it is the best value city car for both under £9000 and between £9000 to £11,000. That is why the Kia Picanto 1.0-litre 1 five-door is Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Awards 2012 City Car winner,” he added.

Michael Cole, Managing Director of Kia Motors (UK) Limited said, “I am delighted that the all-new Picanto has so impressed the very thorough judges in the Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Awards that it has won both price categories in the City Car segment. We were delighted last year when cee’d VR-7 won both medium hatchback and the overall Car of the Year award and this accolade is conclusive proof that here at Kia we recognise the challenges that real-life motorists face and seek to address.”
