Volkswagen presents new modular industrial power systems at Intermat 2012

From April 16-21, Volkswagen will use the occasion of construction machinery fair Intermat at Paris to show their new modular industrial power systems for the first time. Focus amongst the exhibits will be, apart from a versatile 3.6l-VR6-gaseous fuel
engine, the new diesel engines with modular peripherals which will be rated at 55 kw and meet EU 97/68 IIIB and US EPA Tier-4 standards from 2013 onwards. These powerful low emission units are based on latest automotive power plants which are proven millions of times over.

The basic menu offers diesel- and gaseous fuel engines in three fixed installation space cubes. By means of seven add-on modules, the customer can then make an individual configuration of his engine: A variety of exhaust systems, air intake routings, fuel modules, charge air piping, SAE-power handovers and a universal, prewired E-box interact with mechanical or electric cooling fans to enable power systems tailored to any application – from mobile machinery such as lift trucks, via construction equipment to multi-role vehicles for municipal services.

The range of possible configurations ensures a uniquely variable product. Machinery powered by Volkswagen can now be offered alternatively for gaseous- or diesel fuel operation, without amendments to the machine design. Namely manufacturers of lift trucks, construction equipment or similar applications, draw further profit from the fact that all these modules are pre-certified and based on Volkswagen’s large volume components.

Volkswagen Power Systems will be exhibiting at the Intermat for the third time. This show is held every third year near Paris, focusing on construction equipment and related accessories.
