Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivers 2.79-million vehicles in period to June; +10.2 per cent

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand handed over 2.79- (January-June 2011: 2.53; +10.2 per cent) million vehicles to customers worldwide in the first half of this year. The brand also announced an increase for the month of June, when it delivered 498,600
(June 2011: 438,400; +13.7 per cent) units.

"The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand developed well in the first half of the year despite the difficult situation in Western Europe. However, there is still considerable uncertainty in Europe which will continue into the second half of the year," said Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand.

In spite of the difficult situation on markets in Southern Europe, Volkswagen Passenger Cars grew deliveries on the overall European market in the first six months to 907,900 (881,000; +3.1 per cent) units. While the number of vehicles delivered in Western Europe (excluding Germany) fell slightly to 464,300 (487,100; -4.7 per cent), deliveries in Central and Eastern Europe rose by a substantial 45.2 per cent to 134,000 (92,300) vehicles. Deliveries in Russia continued to develop at a high level, totaling 81,100 (45,500; +78.1 per cent) units. In the home market of Germany, Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 309,700 (301,700; +2.6 per cent) vehicles to customers.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand continued to grow outside Europe. In the Asia-Pacific region, the brand increased deliveries by 15.0 per cent in the period to June, handing over 1.09- (0.95) million vehicles to customers. 982,600 (852,800; +15.2 per cent) units were delivered in China (incl. Hong Kong), the region's largest single market, during the same period. The brand also developed well on the American continent. Deliveries by Volkswagen Passenger Cars in the North America region grew 24.2 per cent to 295,300 (237,700) vehicles, of which 208,700 (154,100; +35.4 per cent) models were handed over to customers in the United States. In the South America region, deliveries increased by 4.0 per cent to 390,900 (375,800) units.
