Jules Szymkowiak wins first scholarship shoot-out for the 2013 season of Formula BMW Talent Cup

Jules Szymkowiak (NL) has won the first scholarship shoot-out for the 2013 season of the Formula BMW Talent Cup. The 17-year-old beat twelve competitors in a multi-stage rating system on the demanding Red Bull Ring (AT), which was booked exclusively by BMW
for the occasion. The runners-up were Benjamin Mazatis (DE) in second place and Paul Hockfelt Jr. (SE) in third place. This victory has secured Szymkowiak a scholarship worth 35,700 euros (incl. 19 per cent German VAT), which goes towards the cost of participating in the 2013 season of the Formula BMW Talent Cup.

The scholarship shoot-out on the Red Bull Ring was the first of three such shoot-outs being held as part of the selection programme for individuals interested in participating in the Formula BMW Talent Cup. The next shoot-out is scheduled to take place at the Lausitzring (DE) on November 11, 2012, while the third and final shoot-out will take place on the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia (ES) on November 25. There are only a handful of places still available for these two dates.

There are also other ways for people with an interest in formula racing to get their first taste of it, in addition to the scholarship shoot-outs. Kart racers who have yet to gather any experience behind the wheel of a formula racing vehicle can take part in special rookie tests that introduce them to the basics of formula racing. And for drivers with some formula racing experience already under the belt or who have previously participated in a rookie test, there are further full tests. The aim of the Formula BMW Talent Cup is to comprehensively and sustainably prepare talented drivers for a career in professional motorsport.

Information on registering for the 2013 Formula BMW Talent Cup and details of all the test and shoot-out dates can be found on the BMW Motorsport website at: http://bit.ly/Formula_BMW_Talent_Cup_2013_Registration

"Having the opportunity to drive a BMW FB02 type formula racing vehicle on the Red Bull Ring was a unique experience. I've already learnt a lot about formula racing and I felt like a part of the trainee team right away. My victory has really motivated me ahead of the start of the 2013 Formula BMW Talent Cup season," said Jules Symkowiak, winner of the scholarship shoot-out at the Red Bull Ring.
