Peugeot 208 tops 90 mpg in 2012 MPG Marathon

Two Peugeot 208 hatchbacks were entered into the MPG Marathon 2012, finishing a route that included a wide range of roads and terrain across England and Wales, and both achieved an average fuel economy exceeding 90 mpg.

Driven by Chris Russon from the Trinity
Mirror Regional Newspapers with co-driver Kevin Jones and Ian Robertson, Editor of DieselCar magazine with co-driver Craig Morrow, the two Peugeot 208s are the most economical cars in the range, with only 87 g/km of CO2.

"While this year's MPG Marathon was as demanding as ever, I was delighted with the performance and economy of the Peugeot 208, especially achieving the 93.4 mpg average when 83.1 is the figure for the official Combined Drive Cycle. The 208 has a very comfortable environment and over distance I became completely at one with the driving position, characterised by the new smaller steering wheel. Its quality feel and controls fell perfectly to my hands and made for a relaxed journey, despite the many driving challenges we faced," said Chris.

The car driven by Ian Robertson with Craig Morrow won the Tracker Safety Award for the best and least frantic driving style, with the 208s coming 3rd and 4th in the MPG Marathon overall. Chris used just 3.91 gallons (17.77 litres) over the 370 mile route.
