Howard wins British GT title with Aston Martin

Beechdean AMR driver and team-owner Andrew Howard (GB) has won the Avon Tyres British GT Championship in his Aston Martin Vantage GT3.

Howard topped the Drivers' championship standings after finishing fourth at the Donington Park season finale. In bright
and dry conditions, Howard started the two-hour race from sixth on the highly-competitive grid of 23 GT3-specification competition cars before handing over to team-mate Jonny Adam after 33 laps.

Having resisted pressure from behind in the closing stages, Adam crossed the line in fourth position to secure the title for Howard.

The pair won the seventh round of the 10-race series at Brands Hatch and scored two further podium results in their fruitful quest for the championship crown.

"It was proper pressure today. For me, today showed that the 'Am' drivers in British GT are really strong and they can step up when needed. Today I couldn't afford to make a mistake, for 50 minutes," said Andrew Howard.

"When I was driving, nothing was going through my mind other than the eleven corners in front of me, keeping Marco (Attard) behind me. After that it was hell when Jonny was driving. At one point we were third in the championship then we were back in the lead of the championship."

"This is the first year we've had a car and a setup to compete, and it is the standard of the championship that makes this win so important. It’s been a hard fought year, Benjamin and his team have put together a brilliant series and fabulous platform that allows a Pro-Am pairing to really benefit. If we’d won in 2008 or 2009, we’d have been chuffed, but winning it this year with the standard and quality of the field is unbelievable. We can tick a big box now."

Aston Martin Racing Team Principal John Gaw added, "We're thrilled that Andrew has won the British GT Championship with Aston Martin. Beechdean AMR has been the perfect partner team all year and everyone at Aston Martin Racing is delighted that Andrew - who partnered with us early in the development of the Vantage GT3 - will proudly wear the number one on his car in 2014."

"I offer my congratulations to everybody who has worked so hard to make this programme such a success. It's also terrific to see Jonny Adam, one of our factory drivers, being a crucial part of the team that helped Andrew to win the championship. We look forward to welcoming Jonny into the full factory team as he makes his debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship at Fuji in two weeks' time."
