Volvo Cars' global sales up 8.4 per cent, continued growth in China and Europe

August marked another month of positive momentum for Volvo Cars with retail sales of 29,257 cars, up 8.4 per cent compared to the same month last year, driven by a strong performance in key markets.

Volvo Cars' largest market China reported August sales amounting
to 6,154 cars, up 42.5 per cent versus last year. The Volvo XC60 crossover was the best-selling model followed by the S60L sedan.

In Sweden, Volvo Cars outperformed the market by selling 3,167 cars, up 6.2 per cent from last year driven by growing demand for Volvo's XC-range carlines.

Europe was another bright spot in August with the Volvo XC60 and the V40 models boosting sales to 8,918 cars, up 19.4 per cent versus last year. Both Germany and France grew more than 50 per cent in August. The Volvo V40 is the best-selling model in Europe with its class-leading engines offering outstanding performance in combination with low CO2 emissions.

The United States was Volvo Cars' second largest market in August with 4,961 retail sold cars. The Volvo S60 and XC60 models were the best-selling models during the month.

"With continued positive developments in key markets, Volvo Cars is clearly on track towards an all-time high sales result for this year," said Alain Visser, Senior Vice-President - Marketing, Sales & Customer Service, Volvo Cars. "I am also extremely pleased with the positive reactions we saw at the global launch of the all-new Volvo XC90, which shows that we have chosen the right direction for our future models."
