Renault UK Clio Cup appoints Carl McKellar as Media Officer

Renault UK and the British Automobile Racing Club have appointed Carl McKellar as Media Officer for their 2015 Renault UK Clio Cup.

The Clio Cup, for racing versions of Renault's potent Clio Renaultsport 200 Turbo EDC, will race in front of the UK's biggest motor sport
crowds as well as live ITV4 cameras as part of the action at nine Dunlop British Touring Car Championship events.

Carl returns to a role he previously held from 1997-2003 (as Renaultsport UK Press Officer). In that time he worked with many drivers who went onto to motor sport stardom including Formula 1 World Champions Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen (Formula Renault), plus World Touring Car Champions Andy Priaulx (Spiders) and Robert Huff (Clio Cup).

His past experience also includes nine years as Media Officer for the BTCC (2004-2012). He will now handle all media duties for the Clio Cup which starts with a Pre-Season Media Launch at Rockingham (March 25) prior to the two opening rounds of the 2015 championship at Brands Hatch (April 5).

"I'm absolutely delighted to be part again of British motor sport's most loyal manufacturer - Renault - and of course its headline category, the UK Clio Cup. Similarly to be working with Britain's favourite race event organiser, the BARC," said Carl.

"The Clio Cup remains a firm favourite among the BTCC's trackside and TV audiences in terms of on-track excitement, sub-plots and title fights. It is rapidly going from strength to strength and there is every indication it is about to return to the large grid sizes it enjoyed in the early 2000s while continuing to unearth the big future names in the BTCC - in fact it's no coincidence that at least four teams set to be on 2015's grid already have strong BTCC connections. I predict 2015 will mark one of the most competitive and unpredictable seasons in Clio Cup history."

Will Fewkes, Clio Cup's Championship Manager, added, "On behalf of Renault UK and the BARC, I'm delighted to welcome Carl back to the Renault UK Motorsport fold. It's great to see such a talented and hard-working individual return to our brand ahead of 2015 and it's a real coup for the championship."

"Most people will be aware of Carl's invaluable efforts whilst working as Media Officer for the BTCC, so this is a real statement of intent for a series that will continue to grow in the near future. 2015 is certainly set to be an exciting year for all involved."
