Cyrus Engineer wins Round 5 of UAE Rotax championships

13 year old Mumbai born lad Cyrus Engineer (younger brother of TRS racer Shahaan Engineer) won round five of the AARKC Rotax Junior max UAE championship and round three of the DAMC karting championships respectively at the Dubai Kartdrome on Friday
January 20, 2012. This puts the young driver back into contention for the championship lead after he lost valuable points in a pre-final accident during round two at the same venue.

Dubai Tracktalk officials noted – The Junior Max class is proving to be a hotbed of very close action with at least half a dozen drivers capable of victory. As a result there were three different winners during the course of the day. but Cyrus Engineer took top honours in the Final.

After qualifying P 3 just a few hundredths off pole in an extremely tight qualifying session, the youngster faced some bad luck during the heats and Pre-final races. However he stayed focused and moved in from his starting position of P 5 to take immediate control of the race lead and eventually crossed the checkered flag clocking in a 58.7, the fastest lap of the race. Cyrus said of his win, “It was close all day. There was very little between us with many drivers on the pace, but in the end I stuck to my game plan and made all the right moves. I am very happy to win the final.”

Keiran Crawley team boss of Msport, who is now managing the youngsters karting career had flown down to the UAE from his hometown UK to mechanic the young teen and was happy with the days results – “He had a tough time all day and after he was displaced to P5 in the prefinal Cyrus kept his head cool and took top spot in the final after a fantastic start;  eventually winning the race by a healthy lead.”

Round 6 of the ten round AARKC championship will be held in early February at Al Ain International Raceway, home of the 2011 Rotax Grand finals.
