Mercedes-Benz' Vitoria plant manufactures the 75,000th unit of the current van model series Vito and Viano

The 75,0000th vehicle from the current Vito and Viano model series has rolled-off the line at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vitoria. The milestone van, an obsidian black Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde V6 model with an automatic transmission and a luxurious leather
interior, will be delivered to a customer in Belgium. "This achievement marks yet another milestone for Vitoria," says Plant Manager Emilio Titos. "Our facility is the center of expertise for medium-sized vans and electric-drive vans, and it’s also a key component of the Mercedes-Benz production network."

The current van series has been manufactured in Vitoria since 2003 and is offered in the two model variants Viano and Vito. The Mercedes-Benz Viano is a premium minivan for private customers; the Mercedes-Benz Vito is tailored to the needs of commercial customers in the skilled crafts and trades, services, and passenger transport sectors. The year 2010 saw the broad-scale launch of the new generation of the Viano and Vito models.

The Vitoria plant also began manufacturing the first-ever series-produced electric-drive van in 2010 - the Mercedes-Benz Vito E-Cell. The Vito E-Cell is ideal for use in inner cities and areas with very sensitive environments. More than 500 Vito E-Cell vehicles have now been manufactured and delivered to European customers for testing under everyday conditions. Mercedes-Benz Vans expanded its model portfolio to include the Vito E-Cell crewbus variant in March 2012. The comfortable electric vehicle seats seven occupants and has a range of approximately 130 km.

Over the last 9 years the current van series has advanced to become the best-selling vehicles in the history of the Vitoria van plant. For example, a total of 98,000 models were sold worldwide in 2011 alone.

The Vitoria plant, which is located in the heart of the Basque region in northwestern Spain, was built in the early 1950s. Approximately 3,200 people are employed at the plant, which lies within a complex measuring 600,000 m2 and has a production area of 370,000 m2.
