BMW Motorrad global sales increase in the first half of 2013 by 9.7 per cent

BMW Motorrad closed the first half of 2013 with a new six-month record. 64,941 motorcycles and scooters (previous year: 59,189 units) were sold as of June 2013. This represents an increase in sales over the previous year of 9.7 per cent. Motorcycle and scooter sales achieved
a new June record. Sales went up significantly as compared to the same month last year by 22.1 per cent to 12,541 vehicles (prev. yr.: 10,271 units).

With a share of 18.2 per cent in the sales volume, Germany continues to be the biggest single market. In spite of the fact that climatic conditions were unfavourable for spring business, sales in the BMW Motorrad domestic market increased over the previous year by 2.9 per cent to 11,827 vehicles (previous year: 11,492 units).

The second largest market after the first six months of 2013 is the USA with a sales volume of 8,101 vehicles (previous year: 6,947 units), a percentage increase of 16.6 per cent. The major European markets of France and Italy rank third and fourth with sales of 6,129 and 6,094 respectively.

"Never before has BMW Motorrad sold as many vehicles as this in the first six months of a year. We are very pleased with the sales result for the first half of 2013. It proves how popular our products are among our customers - in particular the new R 1200 GS. We recorded healthy growth worldwide in all the relevant markets in June. It is the best June result ever. Even the crisis-ridden markets of Europe proved to be stable for BMW Motorrad. We were able to make considerable gains in France, Italy and even Spain as compared to June 2012. The strongest growth is to be seen in North and South America and in Asia. With this outstanding six-month result we are now well on the way to achieving a new all-time sales high for 2013," said Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing.
