Simon Thomas to take over as Global Head of Marketing for Volkswagen Group AG

Simon Thomas, 53, will take over responsibility for Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand from September 1, 2013. He succeeds Jurgen Stackmann, 51, who became Chairman of Seat S.A. on May 1, 2013. In his
new role, Thomas will be based at the company's international headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, reporting to the Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, Christian Klingler.

Thomas began his current role as Managing Director of Volkswagen Group (UK) Ltd. in September 2011, following an established career in the motor industry. Following a four year apprenticeship and qualification in 1980 as an automotive technician, Thomas moved to the Austin Rover Group in 1985 as a technical advisor, after which he then worked in service, sales and fleet field-based roles.

In 1991, Thomas moved to Nissan GB, where he later assumed the roles of Marketing Director and then Sales Director. He then relocated to Canada, where he took over responsibility for sales and marketing for both the Nissan and Infiniti brands. In 2007, he returned to Europe as Vice-President of Sales for Nissan Europe, based in France. The following year he became Nissan Europe's Senior Vice-President, based in Switzerland. He spent four years there before joining the Volkswagen Group in 2011.

"It will be tough to leave the VWG UK team after just two years. However, this new role is a great opportunity for me to work at the heart of the Group. The UK team has achieved so much and I am very proud to have worked with and supported them. During the past two years we have grown sales and market share and made many organisational changes to ensure that we are better equipped to tackle the inevitable future challenges and developments in the automotive industry. One in five new vehicles purchased in the UK comes from the Volkswagen Group team; a remarkable achievement," said Thomas.

Thomas's successor at Volkswagen Group (UK) Ltd. will be announced in due course.
