Renault India drives in with the Pulse, unveils the crossover Duster

Renault India Private Ltd, the fully owned subsidiary of Renault s.a.s launched the Renaulty Pulse - its premium offering for the compact car segment in India at the Delhi Auto Expo 2012. The Pulse was first unveiled at the end of October last year as a part of the first Indian
Formula 1 celebrations by F1 drivers Mark Webber
and Karun Chandhok in the presence of Carlos Tavares, COO, Renault s.a.s.

In continuation with Renault India’s commitment to the Indian customers to bring in truly world class automobiles with a touch of French flair, comfort and top notch design the Pulse is expected to raise the bar for the premium segment compact cars with its vast array of features, focus on safety and performance which is both powerful and fuel efficient.

Speaking to the media Katsumi Nakamura, EVP Asia Africa, Renault s.a.s. said, “India is an integral part of our global growth strategy and we are gratified with the way Indian customers have accepted Renault products. The successful launching of three quality products within 8 months is a milestone for Renault not only in India but globally. Renault India is all set to take another firm step towards its commitment and pleased to announce the launch of Renault Pulse in India.”

The Pulse is a product designed and developed by our India design studio at Mumbai, focusing on the Indian customer’s aspirations, tastes and preferences. About the Pulse
The Pulse epitomises Renault’s philosophy of bringing affordable cars with innovative technology and sporty, dynamic design. The PULSE which was designed at the Renault design studio in Mumbai brings in a host of features which are user friendly and innovative.

The Pulse is powered by the Renault K9K diesel engine that ranks among the best-inclass in terms of fuel efficiency and performance. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Renault K9K diesel engine is manufactured locally at the Renault – Nissan Alliance factory located in Oragadam on the outskirts of Chennai.

Pulse will be available with the Renault K9K diesel 1.5 dCi engine with maximum power of 64 ps @ 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 160 nm @ 2,000 rpm which is not only fun to drive but delivers one of the best in-class fuel efficiency. (According to ARAI test data the Pulse achieves 23.08 Kmpl.)

The Pulse will be on sale in India in two variants, both powered by the K9K diesel engine - the RxL & RxZ. The top of the line variant RxZ offers dual airbags adding to both driver and passenger safety, illuminated engine start/stop button, lock and unlock sensing folding outside rear view mirrors, automatic climate control, smart access key, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, rear defogger with timer, roof spoiler and front fog lamps.

For the RxL variant the driver airbag (which adds a high safety quotient), power steering, front and rear power windows, central locking, air conditioning, integrated audio system, rear wiper and washer, follow-me headlamps come as standard features.

The Pulse is an ideal introduction to customers looking for a bold, fuel-efficient compact car that is fun to drive in the city as well as on the highways. The Pulse will be available in Pearl White, Metallic Red, Solid Black, Metallic Silver, Metallic Grey and Champagne Gold colours.

The Pulse rides on standard 14-inch wheels for RxL and the top end RxZ gets 15-inch alloy wheels which adds considerably to the handling and the aesthetics of the car. Macpherson struts in the front and coil springs in the rear add stabilty to the ride and gives the car superb driving dynamics.

The Pulse, like the Fluence and the Koleos, is covered under the Renault Complete Care package, which offers 2+2 year/80,000 Km warranty along with other benefits like Concierge services, 24x7 roadside assistance, Navigation assistance, etc.

About the Duster
Renault plans to broaden its footprint in the Indian market by launching a mid-size crossover – the Duster, which combines the comfort of a sedan and the bold styling and performance of a SUV. The Duster which will be manufactured in India with high local content and made available in both Petrol and diesel variants will open up a whole new segment in the Indian passenger car market with its premium features, comfortable seating, powerful and rugged performance combined with high fuel efficiency. The Duster is an affordable and trendy offer for all Indian drivers seeking for an exciting alternative to a traditional sedan.

The company expects to launch the Duster in the second half of the current year and with its launch, Renault India, would have a portfolio of four new products spread across a broad spectrum to ensure that it has a wide reach and caters to a wide range of customers.
