Uwe Gunther Nast appointed Head of IT Security at the Volkswagen Group

Uwe Gunther Nast (47) has been appointed the new Head of IT Security at the Volkswagen Group effective September 1, 2012. Nast is a newcomer to the Group. The informatics graduate has many years of experience in planning, setting up and organising IT
security solutions.

The Member of the Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft Board of Management for Human Resources, Dr. Horst Neumann, said, "Demands on Group IT are increasing as the Group continues to grow. Group IT links millions of people – employees, customers, suppliers – with one another every day. It is the nerve center of our company and a prerequisite for efficient, competitive and customer-oriented business. That is why we set the highest standards when it comes to the qualification of our IT employees and IT security."

In his new function, Nast will report to Dr. Martin Hofmann, Head of Volkswagen Group IT. Hofmann emphasized, "The Group's computing centers perform billions of arithmetic operations every day to a high standard of security – for the dialog with our customers, for development, for production processes and for sales all over the world. We will be maintaining this high standard going forward. In Uwe Gunther Nast, we have been fortunate to recruit an acknowledged expert."

Uwe Gunther Nast studied informatics in Karlsruhe and began his career in 1991 as project manager for software development at Neckarwerke in Esslingen. Having held further posts he moved to Deutsche Post AG as IT Head, Deutsche Post Direkt, in 1997. From 2001, Nast headed the national test and quality assurance department at T-Mobile, becoming Vice-President International in 2003. He was appointed Senior Vice-President with responsibility for Data and IT Security at T-Mobile in 2008. Nast has been Senior Vice-President for Data and IT Security at Deutsche Telekom since 2010.
